  • Action and Adventure

Byzwa-Dher

"She was free in her wildness. She was a wanderess, a drop of free water. She belonged to no man and to no city."
Roman Payne, The Wanderess

I used to have I lot more patience with slow books, now... Not so much. I need action and a fast paced plot or my interest floats away real quick.

I need twists and turns and lots of action and adventure and explosions and battles and people losing limbs or something like that.

I guess that's why I don't read a lot of realistic contemporary books anymore. People doesn't lose body parts that often in real life. Oh, well.

  • Not Overly Romance-Filled Plot

Deltamike

"They spoil every romance by trying to make it last forever."
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

I don't know why I don't care about romances in books, I really don't. My favorite movies have a lot of romance in them and I love them, obviously. But it doesn't do a lot for me in books.

It's fine if it isn't s big part of the plot, but when the romance gets bigger than the other parts of the book it annoys the hell out of me.

That happens a lot when I read synopsis of books that look cool as hell but then this happens: "she meets a boy that will change her life..." it's like "Agghh, again? Nope, thank you but nope. I'll pass."

  • Charismatic Characters

SirTiefling

"Charisma is the fragrance of soul."
Toba Beta, Master of Stupidity

A lot of people think that the characters they read about have to always be totally three-dimensional , some people just want to relate to the characters and their story.

Me? Sure, I want all of that, but the most important thing for me? Charisma. I don't care if they're the hero or the villain, I need to feel like they're rock stars.

Well maybe they don't have to be at that level, but they have to keep me interested and for that I don't have to feel like I know them or they know me, they don't have to be like real people. They just have to be cool, even if it's in a completelly superficial way. I'm simple like that, sorry.
